Disney Digital Studio Services was thrilled to host an editing workshop for the Academy Gold Program on Saturday July 28th 2018.
The workshop took place on the Disney Studio Lot at Riverside Editorial, one of the highest-tech editing facilities in the industry designed specifically with the filmmaker in mind.
The day began in EDIT A with 6 Academy Gold students meeting acclaimed Editor Troy Takaki and Assistant Editor Kelly Soll to receive their editing task: review 30 minutes of dailies and then break off to cut the scene.
Each Academy gold participant then received their own editorial bay with an Avid set up and got to work! All feeling the inspiration of the last project to use this space, Solo: A Star Wars Story.
The editing workshop was a fantastic opportunity and a challenge for the students. While a few were familiar with Avid, others had never experienced working on an Avid nor had ever edited a scene before. Under the guidance of Kelly, Troy, and support from each other, the Academy Gold students pieced together their scene.
The workshop finished with editing veterans Carol Littleton and Michael Tronick joining the students. Carol and Michael watched the different cuts, gave incredible feedback, and shared valuable career experiences.
Disney Digital Studio Services was honored to be a part of this workshop and will continue to support the Academy Gold Program for years to come.
